2.6.2010.

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

NOINO continues to make efforts for early talks on wage-rise. NOINO President, Shri Prakash Javadekar, MP, Rajyasabha today (2nd June 2010) discussed the charter issue in LIC with the Finance Secretary Shri Ashok Chawla. Following points were raised by Shri Javadekar:-

1. Early resumption of talks:- Shri Javadekar lamented the fact that no fruitful discussions have taken place since long. He said that the LIC employees were feeling frustrated because of the long delay. He demanded that the Ministry should direct the management to take immediate measures for an early resumption of talks.

2. Wage-rise as per paying capacity of LIC :- Shri Javadekar said that majority of the unions in LIC(including NOINO) have already rejected the offer of 17.5%. He also reiterated our position that it is unfair to compare LIC with banks. He quoted various figures such as profitability per employee to show how futile this comparison was. He also said that though we do not want to compare with banks, if it was not for the pension issue, the bank employees would have got more wage-rise. He argued that the pension issue not being so prominent in LIC, the employees deserve a higher wage-rise than 17.5%. He strongly demanded wage-rise as per paying capacity of LIC.

Shri Chawla said that he would immediately talk to the LIC management on this issue. He also seemed to be suitably impressed by the arguments of our President. In the light of the above, we feel that things should move now & we may see the result shortly.

Yours brotherly,
sd/-
Ganesh Kamath
GS, NOINO
